Tipping has been a very essential part of appreciation of certain services in the US and all over the world. In many cultures tipping is not an obligation, but a custom gesture. We consider tipping as an etiquette tool and skill, which many people should use.
WHY DO WE TIP - 3 REASONS FOR TIPPING
Showing appreciation to the person who provides the great service and makes us happy doing so.
Closing the wage gap ( many people work for a very low wages in the service provided industries)
Well, the last one is not that altruistic, but we secure an excellent service in the future by tipping well.
WHO DO WE TIP:
Restaurants – Wait stuff: We usually tip ( pre-tax) 10% for a mediocre service, 15% for a good service and 20 and over % for an Excellent service. The thing is , if the service is really bad, nobody can't make you tip the waiter. There is no obligation. And this is my next line in regards of Gratuity. In many good restaurants mainly in the US we have a so called gratuity, “tip” already included in your bill. So, you always need to ask or consider the fact if there is a gratuity on the bill. If the service is great, you still may leave an additional tip, it is completely up to you, if the service is really bad, well, I suggest you speak to the manager. Your money, your way;)
Home service – we usually would like to tip the person who delivers our pizza or other food 10 – 15% or $2.00 - $5.00. they make our life easier as well.
Taxi services – always tip around 15%.
Salons and Spa's – 15- 20% is a good amount for the people to split between each other. It is always up to you.
Pet grooming – try to tip the staff around 15- 20%. More slightly your beautiful pet will be returning there often. And it is always a good idea to feel comfortable with the people around. They can sense the positive vibe, most of the time more than us, do you agree?
Valet parking – it is expected between 2- to $5.00. But if you do have a “nicer” car, you can tip even more, because you would like your car to be cared for.
Hotels – housekeeping is very essential for our pleasant stay in any hotel, so it is a good etiquette to leave a couple of dollars on the pillow with a small note to thank the housekeeping stuff. Be consistent, if you stay longer. You can leave 2 dollars per day, because the stuff changes.
WHO WE DO NOT TIP....we do not tip government workers, at least not in the US.
